Google now automatically deletes new users' search and location data after 18 months by default, a significant shift in privacy settings.
This move aims to restore public trust following previous privacy violation fines against Google and Facebook.
Existing users retain the option to manually set auto-deletion for their data every 3 or 18 months, with reminders about this feature.
New users of Google's subsidiary, YouTube, will also have their search data automatically deleted after 36 months.
CEO Sundar Pichai emphasized privacy as a core principle for Google, detailing easier access to privacy controls and 'incognito' mode.
