Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha called on all sectors in Phuket to ensure the success of the "sandbox" tourism pilot project, welcoming the first international tourists.
The project allows vaccinated visitors to stay in Phuket for at least 14 days before traveling to other provinces, with initial flights arriving from Qatar, Abu Dhabi, and Israel.
PM Prayut emphasized that the Phuket model is a critical first step towards fully reopening Thailand within four months, aiming to restore livelihoods despite acknowledged risks.
He stressed the necessity of strict health compliance, continuous monitoring, and periodical assessments for the project's success, serving as a blueprint for other tourist destinations.
