Prince Norodom Ranariddh, former Cambodian Prime Minister and half-brother to the current king, passed away in France at the age of 77.
He led his royalist Funcinpec party to victory in the 1993 elections but was subsequently ousted in a 1997 coup by his coalition partner, Hun Sen, who has since maintained his authoritarian leadership.
Despite his early political prominence, Ranariddh spent his later years in Hun Sen's political shadow, eventually endorsing the dissolution of an opposition party and advocating for national unity under Hun Sen's rule.
