Devastating floods in northeastern India and Bangladesh have claimed at least 18 lives and submerged millions of homes, severing crucial transport links.
India's Assam state reports 9 deaths and 2 million displaced as the Brahmaputra river breached embankments, while lightning killed 9 in Bangladesh, where major rivers are rising.
Both nations have deployed militaries for rescue and aid, with train services canceled in India and flight operations suspended in Bangladesh as heavy rainfall persists.
Bangladesh, a low-lying nation, faces escalating flood threats exacerbated by climate change, with this event following a pre-monsoon flash flood last month.
