Insurgents attacked a road checkpoint in Yala province with a pipe bomb, damaging three cars but causing no injuries to officers or defense volunteers.
Police reinforcements and an Explosives Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team swiftly responded to secure the scene and gather forensic evidence.
The bombing is part of a recent escalation of attacks in Thailand's southern provinces, which analysts link to the 20th anniversary of the Tak Bai massacre and the approaching expiry of its statute of limitations.
