White House attacks CNN reporter for question on Trump aide

15 Sept 02:35 Key points summarised by AI

The White House and President Trump publicly attacked CNN reporter Kristen Holmes for questioning Trump about his executive assistant, Natalie Harp, during an Oval Office event.
Trump berated Holmes as 'disrespectful' and 'fake news' after she inquired about a Democratic lawmaker's comments regarding Harp's relationship with the president.
The White House's 'Rapid Response' team criticized Holmes on X, accusing her of taking a 'cheap shot' about a staffer during an event honoring a hero lifeguard.
CNN defended Holmes, stating the attacks were 'beneath the office' and affirming their strong support for the reporter.
The controversy stemmed from a Democratic senator's comments about Trump's focus on 'travel with Natalie' instead of his job, prompting the reporter's question.

President Macron condemned widespread rioting and looting during nationwide protests, blaming far-left activists and criminals for the "unrestrained violence" and vowing accountability for those who "sought to bring down the Republic."
Over 2,400 arrests were made as protests against rising living costs and poor school conditions escalated, causing extensive damage to public buildings and businesses in cities like Paris, Limoges (where City Hall burned), Marseille, and Lyon.
The unrest, which organizers hoped would revive the "yellow vest" movement, saw political leaders trade blame, with Macron instructing prefects to protect public buildings and potentially ban future protests to prevent further disorder.
