Police launched the "Garbage Truck Undercover" operation, disguising themselves as garbage collectors to infiltrate a tightly knit Bangkok community and apprehend alleged drug network leader 'Somphop'.
The extensive operation resulted in the arrest of six alleged network members, the identification of nine drug users for rehabilitation, and the seizure of significant narcotics including methamphetamine and ketamine, along with various assets.
Traditional surveillance was complicated by the community's narrow alleys, vigilant residents, and drug transactions occurring in an overgrown rubbish dump, necessitating the innovative undercover approach.
Somphop faces serious charges for jointly distributing Category 1 narcotics and conspiracy to commit drug offenses, though he denies all allegations.
