China confirms discussions are underway on a historic Xi-Trump-Putin meeting

China's Foreign Ministry officially confirmed ongoing discussions for a historic trilateral meeting between President Xi Jinping, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The potential summit is planned for this month in Shenzhen, China, coinciding with the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) leaders' summit.
Experts are skeptical about substantive outcomes due to the leaders' conflicting interests, suggesting the meeting may primarily serve as a high-profile photo opportunity.
Motivations for the meeting vary: Russia aims for a diplomatic coup, Trump seeks to discuss nuclear arms control, and China desires the image of a major power gathering while carefully managing engagement on contentious issues.

Prominent Hong Kong activist Joshua Wong was sentenced to an additional 10 years in prison under the national security law for 'conspiracy to collude with foreign forces.'
The judge identified Wong as a 'mastermind' who called for adverse foreign interference and sanctions against China and Hong Kong, emphasizing the grave nature of his offense.
This new conviction significantly extends Wong's current prison term, underscoring the ongoing crackdown on Hong Kong's pro-democracy movement and the authorities' resolve to keep key activists incarcerated.
Wong, already serving a separate sentence, maintains his political actions were not driven by hatred and he never advocated for Hong Kong independence, expressing a commitment to personal growth during his imprisonment.
