As AI evolves into a new weapon in the digital world, building a shield of protection has become more essential than ever. hai PBS Verify has recently shared real-world fact-checking experiences with students from the Faculty of Communication Arts, Chulalongkorn University, to prepare them for becoming creative and safe media producers.

Reinforcing its core mission to foster a fact-checking society, Thai PBS Verify participated in the “AI Literacy & AI Governance Forum.” Organized by the Faculty of Communication Arts, Chulalongkorn University, the event aimed to lay a foundation for the creative and secure use of AI. The forum guided international AI governance standards for first-year communication arts students. Participants gained insights into creative and safe AI applications through the practical experiences of two prominent fact-checking organizations: Thai PBS Verify and MCOT’s Sure and Share center. Additionally, legal experts from Baker McKenzie Thailand offered specialized perspectives on global AI regulatory frameworks.

Regarding fake news examinations amidst the “information war,” escalated by AI technology, Mr. Nattapoln Toomma, Thai PBS Verify Senior Digital Content Creator, joined as a speaker to share insights on tackling the increasingly complex distorted content encountered over the past year.  He further revealed the fundamental techniques utilized by Thai PBS Verify to intercept AI-generated misinformation, encompassing both still images and videos. This session aimed to build digital literacy for students, providing them with essential foundational knowledge.

Concerning the dangers of AI as a tool for creating seamless misinformation, Mr. Peerapon Anutarasoat, Manager of the Sure and Share center (MCOT), revealed that if misused, such technology can cause severe public misunderstanding. This is particularly critical for the Sure and Share center’s primary mission, as it focuses heavily on verifying health information which has direct impacts on people’s well-being. The emergence of AI-generated fake health content is thus considered a new challenge that demands rigorous verification.

Furthermore, the forum featured Ms. Chanaporn Anurukwongkul from Baker McKenzie Thailand, who complemented the discussion with an overview of AI Governance from a legal perspective. This aimed to ensure that technological development aligns with ethics and individual rights, allowing students to apply international legal viewpoints to their content production, making their work more distinct and practical.
