Aging societies: Policies and Challenges in Thailand and Malaysia
Thailand has become a super-aging society, with at least 20% of the population aged 60 or older. The rapid increase in the elderly population in Thailand presents both challenges and opportunities, particularly in policymaking to improve their quality of living. Thai PBS World spoke with UNFPA’s Representative for Malaysia and Country Director for Thailand, Dr. Julitta Onabanjo, to discuss the differences between aging populations in Thailand and Malaysia, the demographic challenges, and how governments can effectively address these issues.
