The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DES) has shut down 341 fake “Thang Rat” accounts and warned the public of a growing wave of scams linked to the Phase 3 “Digital Wallet” 10,000-baht handout.

Deputy Prime Minister and DES Minister Prasert Jantararuangtong stated that, through the Anti-Fake News Center (AFNC) and the National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA), authorities are actively monitoring online crimes. They found widespread disinformation related to the Phase 3 Digital Wallet program and confirmed that scammers are using fake “Thang Rat” platform accounts to deceive the public.

Deputy Prime Minister and DES Minister Prasert Jantararuangtong revealed that scammers have been spreading fake news and misinformation to trick the public since the government announced the new phase of the program.

Between January 1 and March 12, 2025, the Anti-Fake News Center verified 59 cases related to the wallet scheme. Of these 13 were confirmed fake, 6 were misleading, and 5 involved fake “Thang Rat” application accounts, all of which have been taken down.

Since the program launched on August 1, 2024, authorities have blocked 341 fake accounts, including 308 on Facebook and 33 on TikTok. DES handled 219 cases, while the National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA) managed 122.

Citizens are advised to follow official updates on the “Thang Rat” appplication only through the Digital Government Development Agency (DGA) at www.dga.or.th, call 02-612-6060, or contact the 1111 hotline (press 1 for Digital Wallet inquiries).

The DES emphasized its concern over the harm caused by fake news and pledged ongoing monitoring and legal action. The public is urged to follow the “4 Don’ts” rule: Don’t click links, don’t believe too easily, don’t rush, and don’t transfer money and avoid sharing false information on social media.
