CHINESE CUISINE BEHIND THE CURTAIN OF TRADITION

หน้ารายการ
15 ส.ค. 64

During festivals organised according to the Chinese lunar calendar, different foods believed to bring good fortune are exhibited, and there seems to be no repetition in the manner of presentation. Apart from the attractive colours and aromas, the food embodies meanings of rewards that come with endurance and hard work as well as the unity between community members who have come together to celebrate. To show filial piety and reverence, savoury dishes and sweet snacks are offered to the gods and ancestors. In the Yaowarat District, which is Bangkok’s Chinatown, Leng Buay Ia Market comes to mind when wanting to purchase products for festivals. The market is located in a small alleyway that has become a centre of Chinese culture and traditions. The faith and spiritual beliefs of the Chinese community continue to be clearly exhibited from the beginning of the alleyway all the way to the end.
