Social media users shared an image of a castle on a cliff, claiming it to be “Phu Makhuia” in Sisaket. In fact, the image was AI-generated.

Thai PBS Verify inspected the image showing a castle perched on a cliff, claimed to be Phu Makhuia
in Sisaket province. This is false and misleading information, as verification confirmed that the image
was AI-generated

Social media users shared an image of a castle on a cliff, claiming it to be “Phu Makhuia” in Sisaket. In fact, the image was AI-generated.

Thai PBS Verify found a post on the Facebook account named ออมสินฟาร์ม , which shared the AI generated image of a castle on a cliff with the caption:
“This is Phu Makhuia, a place preserved for all Thais by fairies, divine teachers, and heroic
ancestors.”

The post received 576 reactions, 400 comments, and 13 shares

In addition, over the past two weeks, more than 60 accounts across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok,
and YouTube have shared this image and claim.

Image verification

Over the past two weeks, social media has circulated an image of Phu Makhuia showing a castle-like
structure with captions claiming it to be a sacred place preserved by deities, angels, and Thai
heroes for the Thai people.
When the image was checked with Google Lens, it was found to have been shared widely across
multiple social media platforms in the same misleading context. Further verification with the wasitai
(2) website confirmed that the image was AI-generated.

the area. The findings showed that Phu Makhuia is a forested area and does not feature any castlelike structure as claimed in the post.

Royal Thai Army, who confirmed that there is no castle at Phu Makhuia as claimed in the circulated
image

Meanwhile, on August 12, 2025, the Facebook account Wanchana Sawasdee , belonging to Maj.
Gen. Wanchana Sawasdee, Deputy Spokesperson of the Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters and
Director of the Security Coordination Office with the Internal Security Operations Command,
Directorate of Operations, Royal Thai Armed Forces, posted a video about Phu Makhuia. The clip
stated that Thailand has secured the area by planting the national flag there, which also confirms
that no castle exists at the site as falsely claimed
