was AI-generated
Thai PBS found the source of the fake news: Facebook

Social media users shared an image of a castle on a cliff, claiming it to be “Phu Makhuia” in Sisaket. In fact, the image was AI-generated.
Thai PBS Verify found a post on the Facebook account named ออมสินฟาร์ม , which shared the AI generated image of a castle on a cliff with the caption:
“This is Phu Makhuia, a place preserved for all Thais by fairies, divine teachers, and heroic
ancestors.”

In addition, over the past two weeks, more than 60 accounts across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok,
and YouTube have shared this image and claim.
Image verification
Over the past two weeks, social media has circulated an image of Phu Makhuia showing a castle-like
structure with captions claiming it to be a sacred place preserved by deities, angels, and Thai
heroes for the Thai people.
When the image was checked with Google Lens, it was found to have been shared widely across
multiple social media platforms in the same misleading context. Further verification with the wasitai
(2) website confirmed that the image was AI-generated.
In addition, verification was conducted through Google Earth to confirm the actual landscape of
the area. The findings showed that Phu Makhuia is a forested area and does not feature any castlelike structure as claimed in the post.

The Phu Makhuia area on Google Earth appears as forested land.
