A screenshot of the viral clip falsely claiming Anutin approved the opening of the Khao Din border checkpoint in Sa Kaeo Province
Thai PBS Verify investigated a Facebook user named “Tellnewsหมาวัด,” who posted a clip featuring Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister of Thailand, shaking hands with Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, and (3) an image of the Khao Din border checkpoint in Sa Kaeo Province, and a caption stating,“Anutin secretly opened the Khao Din checkpoint (4), bypassing the military to favor Cambodia over Thailand.”
The clip features a news-style narration falsely claiming that Anutin secretly signed an order to open the Khao Din border checkpoint in Sa Kaeo Province, with footage showing trucks passing through the checkpoint. There was pressure to open the border for vested interests.
False Clip
Thai PBS Verify used Google Lens to examine the image of Anutin and Hun Manet, and found that such image matched coverage of Anutin’s official visit to Cambodia while serving as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. The visit took place during the 8th Thai–Cambodian Border Governors’ Meeting (5) held in Cambodia on October 23, 2024.

Anutin Charnvirakul, while serving as Deputy Prime Minister, was photographed with Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, during his official visit to attend the 8th Thai–Cambodian Border Governors’ Meeting held in Cambodia.
Meanwhile, when the clip was analyzed using the AI detection tool HIVEMODERATION , it was found that the audio was 99.8% likely to be AI-generated.

In this issue, Channel 8 News conducted an on-site investigation and confirmed that the Khao Din border checkpoint in Sa Kaeo Province remains closed.
They also interviewed the person who originally filmed the clip, which was later distorted. The clip’s original recorder stated that the checkpoint has been closed since July 27, 2025, and there has been no cross-border access as claimed.

What’s the truth?
Earlier, Siripong Angkasakulkiat , Deputy Leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, addressed public concerns regarding the easing of border checkpoint regulations between Thailand and Cambodia under the General Border Committee (GBC) agreement.
He stated that, at present, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has not been involved in any decision-making on the matter.
The Prime Minister’s approach is one of peaceful diplomacy, and he has affirmed that not even a square centimeter of territory will be conceded.
He emphasized that any decision to open or close border checkpoints must be made solely for the benefit of Thai citizens, and is not influenced by any foreign nation or third party.
However, although Anutin Charnvirakul was elected as Prime Minister as of September 18, 2025, he does not yet hold full decision-making authority.
This is because, following the parliamentary vote to approve a Prime Minister, the process must proceed through several formal steps:
Submission of the approved name to the King: Once Parliament has voted in favor of a candidate, the Speaker of the House of Representatives submits the name to His Majesty the King for royal endorsement.
Royal Appointment: The King formally appoints the approved individual as Prime Minister by signing a royal command.
Oath of Allegiance: After the official appointment, the new Prime Minister begins forming the Cabinet. Once the Cabinet is finalized, the Prime Minister and ministers must take an oath of allegiance before assuming office.
Only then can the government deliver its policy statement to Parliament and begin exercising full executive authority.
After thorough investigation, the clip was confirmed to contain AI-generated synthetic audio based on false news content. Its dissemination constitutes misinformation and may mislead the public.
