Verified: Post claiming to show Thai victims in the Thai-Cambodia incident is actually an old clip of a bus accident in Prachin Buri

A video showing coffins being shared with the claim that they are Thai victims has been found to be misleading. In reality, it is an old clip of a bus carrying participants of a waste bank project study tour that overturned in Prachin Buri, unrelated to the Thai-Cambodia situation.

Thai PBS Verify found the source of the false claim from a Facebook Reel.

The account KH Creator shared a video clip showing scenes of people carrying coffins and placing them in rows.

Thai PBS Verify found that the Facebook account KH Creator shared a video clip showing scenes of people carrying coffins and placing them in rows, with a caption that reads “ជាចោរសំនឹងទទួល”, which translates into Thai as “The one who exploits or only takes advantage of others.”

The video clip has been shared more than 596 times, prompting Cambodians as well as Thais to express their feelings and engage in heated exchanges.

A check on the transparency section of the Facebook page shows that the account was created in Canada under the name Chariya-ចរិយា on October 2, 2024, and later changed its name to KH Creator on March 29, 2025. Most of the page’s content is related to the Thailand–Cambodia situation.

Thai PBS Verify conducted a check using Google Lens and found that the images in the clip match those posted on the Facebook page Ashi Sareesoon, which reported on the return of 18 deceased victims to their hometown in Phon Charoen District, Bueng Kan Province.

A comparison shows the fake clip (left) alongside an image of rescue workers from the Sawang Siwilai Thammasathan Foundation, Bueng Kan Province, bringing the bodies of 18 victims to Meng Ying Sua Jing Cemetery, Hua Thale Subdistrict, Mueang District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province (right)

Thai PBS also reported on the return of the 18 victims from the bus overturn accident , stating:

“Officials prepared to use a crane to move the bus carrying participants of a waste bank study tour from Bueng Kan Province, which overturned on Highway 304 in Prachin Buri Province, resulting in 18 fatalities. Meanwhile, relatives took the bodies back for religious ceremonies. The initial cause was determined to be brake system failure.”

Thai PBS Verify has confirmed that this is misleading information, as the video clip presented is not related to the Thailand–Cambodia situation but was reposted in a way that creates misunderstanding.

กระบวนการตรวจสอบ

  1. Checked via Google Lens and found it matched news reports of rescue units arranging transport for the bodies of 18 victims from the bus accident involving a study tour group of the waste bank project from Bueng Kan Province.

Impacts of false information

  • Creates division and hatred: Using tragic images alongside accusatory messages leads to misunderstanding and can fuel hatred among people in society.
  • Undermines the credibility of online media: As false information spreads, people lose confidence in what they see online and may struggle to distinguish between real and fake news.
  • Causes public confusion: Viewers may believe the information is true and share it without verification, causing misinformation to spread rapidly.

ข้อแนะนำเมื่อได้ข้อมูลเท็จนี้ ?

  1. Always verify the source of information
When you see any post, start by checking the account behind it. For example, the account “KH Creator” has changed its name and was created in Canada, which is a red flag. Reliable news sources do not frequently change their names and usually operate in the country where they report news. Be cautious with pages that have a history of name changes or conceal their origin.
  2. Cross-check with other credible news sources
Using tools like Google Lens can help you quickly trace the original source of an image or video. Check whether the same information has been reported by other reliable news agencies. If no trustworthy outlets have covered the story, it is highly likely that the information is false.
