The “Miss Universe Cambodia” pageant used an image of a Thai woman from the reign of King Rama V, claiming that Cambodians were dressed in “Khmer sashes.”

The Miss Universe Cambodia 2026 pageant organizers used a historical glass plate negative depicting a woman from Kamphaeng Phet, during the reign of King Rama V, in their VTR, claiming it was a "Khmer sash," and even removed the Department of Fine Arts' watermark. Thai PBS Verify confirmed it is a UNESCO World Heritage site designated as Memory of the World.
