This is the final episode of our series in which we explore the lives of Nat Kadaws who serve as mediums and messengers moving between the worlds of humans and spirits. Underneath the beautiful costumes is the battle being fought by the gender diverse people of Myanmar. They are fighting to survive in a society whose mainstream culture still holds “a discriminatory position” against alternative forms of “gender identity”. We follow the stories of two new Nat Kadaws who must prove themselves, and go through “the rites of passage” that will lead to the accomplishment of their dreams.
