Spirit of Asia

When armed struggle came to an end, the comrades put down their weapons and left the jungle where they had been hiding for over 20 years. Some chose to return to their motherland of Malaysia. Those who stayed decided to start new lives in Thailand. From Communist Malaya, they transitioned into developers of “a new land”.

Most are now in their old age, but remain active in their work. They still look after each other just like they used to when they were fellow warriors on the battlefield. The children and grandchildren have returned to the village to carry on the development projects that had been set up by the previous generation. The village was once a remote community containing the memories of the comrades. Now, Communist Malaya has become a tourism destination, as a result of “the cooperation and dedication” of the villagers.
