THE ARTISTIC PATHS OF THE OLD CITY OF NAKHON

For over a thousand years, many different ethnic groups settled in Nakhon and spread their seeds of knowledge all over Nakhon Si Thammarat. As the tree of heritage grew, the different branches reached people of every socio-economic status. Today, we see those different branches in the forms of the pa yok textiles, the women’s dance-drama of Phraya Nakhon Si Thammarat, the nora which is a shared heritage in Southeast Asia, and the nang talung shadow puppetry with its Indian influences.

On this artistic pathway that stretches far beyond what the eye could see, there are many groups of people who are dedicated to passing on and developing the different heritage aspects. We continue on this endless road where past, present, and future intersect, where the contents are adapted to suit the times, where humour, fun and laughter define the colourful landscape of heritage conservation.
