As a land of pluralism, Satun has long been a cultural and commercial meeting place for Thais and Malays who travelled throughout the Malay Peninsula. Satun’s ports have served as windows into a broader world that facilitated the exchange of goods and products from far-off places.
A LAND THAT IS TRULY FREE
When armed struggle came to an end, the comrades put down their weapons and left the jungle where they had been hiding for over 20 years. Some chose to return to their motherland of Malaysia. Those who stayed decided to start new lives in Thailand. From Communist Malaya, they transitioned into developers of “a new land”.
