“Cannibalism party” in alleged “Epstein files” images revealed as footage from horror film

Images of a "human cannibalism party," which are viral and allegedly linked to the infamous "Epstein files," have been recently viewed over 2.9 million times. Thai PBS Verify confirms, however, that these images are behind-the-scenes shots from a horror movie filmed 20 years ago.

Thai PBS Verify found the piece of malinformation from: X

Post on X claims “latest leaks in Jeffrey Epstein Case involve child cannibalism.”

Thai PBS Verify has investigated an image shared by an X user, SilencedSirs. The post, which depicts a “human cannibalism party,” references the notorious Epstein files with the following caption: “Latest leaks in the case about child cannibalism – Corruption has surfaced on land and sea.”

Are the images in the post real?

Thai PBS Verify utilized Hive Moderation, an image detection tool. The analysis revealed that there was only a 1% probability that AI generated these images. This suggests that the photos are, in fact, authentic.

Verification results from Hive Moderation indicate only a 1% probability of AI generation.

However, a reverse image search via Google Lens revealed similar imagery on X. A user named Unknowingly had previously replied to another post, which featured images nearly identical to those shared by SilencedSirs. It was clarifying the actual context: “That’s just the behind-the-scenes photos of Eli Roth’s ‘Thanksgiving’ trailer for Grindhouse (2550).”

Epstein Files ของจริงเป็นอย่างไร ?

Thai PBS Verify has an in-depth investigation into the “Epstein files” and has summarized the findings from the report titled “Uncovering the Jeffrey Epstein case that involves U.S. key figures.

The “Epstein files” refers to a comprehensive repository of criminal investigation records centered on the late financier Jeffrey Epstein. These documents detail his extensive network and connections to numerous high-profile figures and global elites, such as Elon Musk, Bill Gates, and Bill Clinton. The records also reference U.S. President Donald J. Trump and the UK’s Prince Andrew, who has since been stripped of his royal titles and military affiliations.

Reports indicate that these criminal files encompass a wide range of grave allegations, including conspiracy to commit human trafficking, sex trafficking involving the abuse and solicitation of minors, and extortion carried out within Jeffrey Epstein‘s elite social circles. These revelations sparked widespread public outrage across the United States, leading to persistent demands for further transparency following Epstein’s indictment and subsequent death in 2019.

The U.S. Department of Justice began releasing documents related to the Epstein case in 2019, with the most recent disclosure occurring on December 19, 2025. This latest release followed the drafting and approval of new legislation mandating the declassification of these records. The move was further accelerated by intense pressure from President Trump’s supporters (the MAGA), who have called for the full disclosure of all documents concerning Epstein’s extensive network.

Despite the existence of millions of undisclosed documents, photographs, and video recordings detailing these crimes, many of which reference public figures and politicians, numerous pages remain heavily redacted. Authorities have cited court orders and the protection of victims’ privacy as the primary reasons for these blackouts. However, subsequent findings suggest that names of certain public figures and individuals were withheld due to their potential impact on the current U.S. political landscape.

Regarding the allegations of cannibalism, investigations by the U.S. Department of Justice have yielded no information or evidence to support such claims. There is absolutely no proven link between Jeffrey Epstein and any cases involving “cannibalism.”

What is the truth?

The images in question are behind-the-scenes stills from the 2007 horror film “Thanksgiving.” The scenes depict a cannibalistic feast staged as a twisted parody of a traditional Christian Thanksgiving dinner and hold no connection to the Epstein files.

Verification Process

  • AI detection analysis: using the Hive Moderation tool, the analysis returned only a 1% probability of AI involvement, indicating that the images are authentic photographs of a physical set rather than AI-generated content.
  • Visual forensics: detailed visual inspection combined with Google Lens reverse image searches traced the origin of the imagery to the production sets of the 2007 film.

Impacts of this piece of malinformation

  • Inciting public panic and fear: by exploiting themes of “cannibalism” and “child abuse,” these claims trigger the most primal human fears. Misinformation fuels disproportionate hatred and irrational paranoia within society.
  • Distorting the reality of the crimes: the Jeffrey Epstein case already involves grave, proven offenses, including human trafficking and the abuse of minors. Introducing unfounded claims of “child cannibalism” risks delegitimizing these serious legal issues, casting them as mere conspiracy theories or sensationalist nonsense. Consequently, this undermines the credibility of the judicial process and diminishes the justice that the victims rightfully deserve.
  • Unfounded character assassination: while individuals listed in the Epstein files face legitimate ethical scrutiny, linking them to “cannibalistic behavior” using film stills constitutes severe defamation. Such baseless accusations inflict irreparable damage on reputations without any factual merit.

Recommended Response

    • Do not confuse “visual authenticity” with “contextual truth”: in this instance, Hive Moderation indicated only a 1% chance of AI generation because these were indeed authentic photographs. Specifically, behind-the-scenes stills from the film Thanksgiving (2007). Remember that an “authentic photo” does not inherently equate to a “real-world event.” Always check for the context.
    • Leverage image search tools: when encountering horrific or unbelievable imagery, use Google Lens or other reverse image search tools immediately. In this case, the true origin of the photos as horror film production stills could be traced within seconds.
    • Scrutinize “trigger words”: be wary of posts using sensationalist language such as “latest leaks,” “what they don’t want you to know,” or claims that seem far more extreme than what mainstream media is reporting. Treat these as red flags for potential misinformation or clickbait.
    • Cross-reference with official sources: for global cases like the Epstein files, significant developments are reported by reputable news agencies or released directly through the Department of Justice documents. If no major news outlet has mentioned “cannibalism,” there is a high probability that the claim is fabricated.
    • Stop sharing and “stay put”: if you are uncertain about the validity of a post, refrain yourself from sharing it. Sharing shocking content, even with the intent to criticize or question it, inadvertently boosts its visibility and feeds the algorithm that keeps misinformation alive.
