Fact Check: Could the announcement of an election date be postponed after parliament’s dissolution if border tensions remain?
After the dissolution of parliament by “Prime Minister Anutin,” under the tense situation along the Thai–Cambodian border, statements from the Secretary‑General of the Election Commission suggested that the announcement of an election date might be postponed. Thai PBS Verify examined the legal framework and found that the Election Commission does indeed have authority to adjust the election schedule, but only within constitutional limits.

The claim that “senators still have the power to vote for the prime minister in 2026” is misleading.
Thai PBS Verify found that a Cambodian social media user, “Makaraboy,” claimed that elections in Thailand are meaningless because 250 senators still take part in selecting the prime minister. This claim is false. Under the 2017 Constitution, the current group of senators no longer has the authority to vote for the prime minister.
