Verified: A well-known page claimed the 2nd Army Area was “preparing five thousand soldiers” for a clash with Cambodia. The fact is, this was a statement evaluating the soldiers’ morale.

A well-known page was found to have claimed Thailand was ready to end the war, sending five thousand soldiers to control the border, and cited a statement from the 2nd Army Area. The statement was an evaluation of the troops' health during a border surveillance mission and was not related to troop mobilization at all.

Thai PBS Verify found the source of the fake news: Facebook.

Thai PBS Verify discovered a Facebook page with 2.1 million followers that posted a claim that Thailand was ready to end the conflict. The military was said to be mobilizing five thousand soldiers for combat duty (1)  to control the border area. The post received over 40,000 likes and stated, “Thailand is ready to end the game!! The army has sent nearly five thousand warriors to control the border and is ready for a clash.”

Fake post claims: “Border is heating up! Thai army mobilizes almost five thousand troops for combat, ready to end the game?”

The post also included a comment box below with the following text: “The 2nd Army Area has now stated that both sides are still maintaining their forces along the border. Our Thai soldiers are closely monitoring the movements of the other side and are ready to handle any situation. Most importantly, the army is not only concerned with combat but also cares for the morale of our soldiers.

A field hospital team and a psychological support team have been deployed to the four border provinces to assess the mental health of over 4,824 personnel. The result is that 98% of the soldiers are fully ready to perform their duties.

In addition, there are also missions to assist affected civilians. Over 523 people have fled from risky areas in both Ubon Ratchathani and Surin, and more than 1,094 damaged homes have received help from various sectors, with 90% or 987 homes already repaired. The impressive thing is that His Majesty the King is concerned and has graciously assigned a Privy Councillor to visit and present royal bags to the injured soldiers.”

A screenshot of the page shows a post that references a statement from the 2nd Army Area. It includes an image with the text “Operation ‘Yutthabodin’” visible in the background.

When the details of the statement mentioned were compared with the statement from the 2nd Army Area, it was found to be the same statement. However, no content corresponded to the headline of the post, which claimed, “Thailand is ready to end the conflict; the army has sent nearly five thousand warriors to control the border and is ready for a clash.”

The 2nd Army Area stated the situation at the Thai-Cambodian border on August 29, 2025, was that both sides maintained their forces along their respective security lines. The Thai army was on alert and ready to respond to any situation. It was prepared to boost soldiers’ morale through mental health-enhancing activities, as well as by positively adjusting attitudes and behaviors to ensure all soldiers had the solid morale needed to carry out their missions. Currently, a total of 4,824 people have been evaluated, with 4,715 of them being fit for duty.

When the attached image was verified using the Google Lens image search tool, it was found to match a news report from Matichon, which was published on August 30, 2025. Colonel Richa Suksuwanon, Deputy Spokesperson for the Royal Thai Army, confirmed to Thai PBS Verify that the claim “Thailand is ready to end the conflict; the army has sent nearly five thousand warriors to control the border and is ready for a clash” is not true.

Army Confirms Thailand Upholds Ceasefire Agreement and International Law.

On September 1, 2025, Major General Winthai Suvaree, spokesperson for the Royal Thai Army, clarified that Thailand has strictly adhered to and abided by the ceasefire agreement and has continuously acted in accordance with the principles of international law. In the past, Thailand has been allowed the ASEAN Temporary Observer Team (IOT), a delegation from the ICRC, international allies, and Thai and foreign media to inspect every point on the ground freely. There has never been any obstruction of information. These actions are an indication of the Thai side’s sincerity, which has conducted everything straightforwardly.

Upon verification by Thai PBS Verify, it was found that the news in question is fake and distorts the facts. It used partial information out of context, along with an unrelated image and the headline, “The army has sent nearly five thousand soldiers to control the border and is ready for a clash.” This does not align with the facts, as the 2nd Army Area was merely reporting on the normal border surveillance situation and conducting a mental health assessment of soldiers with the M-MCATT team. Out of 4,824 personnel, it was found that 4,715 were ready for duty.
