ในช่วงแรกเริ่มของพุทธศาสนาจากอินเดียสู่เกาะลังกาในสมัยอนุราธปุระ ในเวลานั้นดินแดนเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้อยู่ในยุคสมัยของอาณาจักรโบราณที่เราคุ้นเคยในชื่อของทวารวดี ศรีวิชัย มีศาสนาพราหมณ์ ฮินดูที่เชื่อในพระเจ้าหลายองค์มาแทนที่ความเชื่อดั้งเดิมในสิ่งลี้ลับเหนือธรรมชาติ วัตถุมงคล โบราณวัตถุและพิธีกรรมต่าง ๆ พบเห็นอยู่ในชุมชนหลายแห่งที่มนุษย์ได้เสกสรรขึ้นเพื่อเป็นเครื่องยึดเหนี่ยวจิตใจ ปัดเป่าทุกข์ภัยและความหวาดกลัว จักรวาลชีวิตของมนุษย์ในยุคสมัยนั้นยังคงเต็มไปด้วยความไม่รู้ พระพุทธศาสนาได้นำเอาคำสอนของพระพุทธเจ้ามาให้มนุษย์ได้ตื่นรู้ ได้เผยแผ่เข้ามาดินแดนเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ตามเส้นทางทั้งบนบกและทะเล เราจะมาตามเส้นทางจากลังกาสู่สุวรรณภูมิ ความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างสองประเทศ ศรีลังกา และไทย ต่างก็มีประชาชนส่วนใหญ่นับถือพุทธศาสนาเถรวาทที่มีหลักฐานหลายอย่างที่เชื่อว่าทั้งสองดินแดนนี้ต่างอยู่ใต้ร่มโพธิ์ของพระพุทธศาสนา
- OVERLAPPING AREAS FROM LANKA TO TAMBRALINGA
Early Buddhism from India to the island of Lanka coincided with the Anuradhapura Kingdom. And the Anuradhapura period coincided with the kingdoms of Dvaravati and Srivijaya in Southeast Asia where Hinduism was the religious faith. This was the new polytheism that had come to replace “animistic beliefs” in nature spirits. Sacred objects, artifacts and ritualistic elements were observed in many communities. These items were believed to possess the power to get rid of pain, suffering and fear, during a time when people didn’t have access to more “self-empowering” knowledge and skills. Buddhism, which taught the way to enlightenment, then spread into Southeast Asia via land and sea. In this episode, we follow the route from Lanka to Suvarnabhumi, or present-day Sri Lanka and Thailand. Both countries have a majority Theravada Buddhist population, as well as a “wide and diverse range of evidence” to prove a history that had run its course under “the spiritual shade” of the Bodhi tree of enlightenment.
