จากการล่มสลายของจักรวรรดิออตโตมันนำไปสู่การสถาปนาสาธารณรัฐตุรกี นับเป็นจุดเปลี่ยนสำคัญของประวัติศาสตร์ชาติตุรกีด้วยการปฏิรูปครั้งใหญ่ที่พลิกโฉมประเทศ หนึ่งในนั้นคือการเปิดพื้นที่ให้ผู้หญิงมีบทบาทมากขึ้นในสังคมตุรกี แต่เส้นทางของพวกเขากลับไม่ง่ายดายนัก บทบาททางเพศที่ฝังรากลึกยังคงเป็นสิ่งที่ผู้หญิงตุรกีจำนวนมาก โดยเฉพาะในพื้นที่ชนบท ต้องต่อสู้และตั้งคำถามต่อสิ่งที่สังคมพร่ำบอกว่าเธอควรจะเป็น คลื่นเฟมินิสต์ขับเคลื่อนเรื่องราวความหวังของผู้หญิงตุรกีมาเกือบทศวรรษ แม้อนาคตของพวกเธอจะยังไม่อาจคาดเดาได้ แต่สิ่งหนึ่งที่ชัดเจนคือ พลังที่ขับเคลื่อนอยู่ในวันนี้ จากการรวมตัวในวันสตรีสากล การเรียนรู้ศิลปะป้องกันตัว ไปจนถึงการลุกขึ้นเรียกร้องในกระบวนการยุติธรรมกำลังเขียนเรื่องราวบทใหม่ด้วยมือของพวกเขาเอง
- THE JOURNEY OF TURKISH WOMEN IN THE FIGHT FOR THEIR RIGHTS
The fall of the Ottoman Empire led to the creation of the Republic of Türkiye, which marked an important turning point in history that transformed the face of the country. Among those transformations was the opening of the platform for women to acquire “more active roles” in Turkish society. But their journey hasn’t been easy. Dissatisfaction with the more traditional roles of women has caused many women, especially those in the rural regions, to “stand up and fight”…while questioning what society has been telling them…specifically in regards “to what they should be?” For almost a century, the feminist movement has driven forward “stories of hope” for Turkish women. While their future remains unpredictable…we witness “a clear phenomenon” in today’s rally on International Women’s Day, as it focuses major feminist concerns from women’s self-defense training…all the way to the making of demands in the justice system. These women are writing a new chapter in Turkish history…”with their very own hands”.
