Thai PBS Verify found a Facebook page named “ក្រសួងការពារជាតិ“, which is the official Facebook page of the Cambodian Ministry of Defense, published a post stating that
Thai official military pages, including Army Region 2, and Thai media published false information regarding the case of Cambodia firing BM-21 rockets onto the community area of Ban Sao Thong Chai, Kantharalak District, Sisaket Province.
The post specified in English that:
The publications of the ‘Army Military Force’, ‘Amarin News’, and ‘Army Region 2’ page are fake news and distortions of the truth. The ‘Army Military Force’, ‘Amarin News’, and ‘Army Region 2’ pages are unprofessional journalisms, disseminating false and distorted information.
The Ministry of National Defence and the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces reiterate that “Cambodia’s rights to self-defence is solely targeted at the Thai military targets and has never targeted at civilian areas”. We firmly emphasize that Cambodia has been consistently and strictly upholding all obligations under the international law, especially international humanitarian law.
Cambodia demands that Thai medias both official and unofficial immediately cease deliberately spreading false information aimed at misleading the public, especially the Thai people, as well as the national and international media, shifting the blame on Cambodia, in order to expand their scope of aggression.
The post was published on December 13, 2025, receiving 2,100 reactions and being shared over 930 times. The majority of the commenters were Cambodian nationals.
Did Cambodia fire BM-21 rockets into the community area?
Thai PBS Verify checked with keywords. Consequently, a summary report on the situation along the Thai-Cambodian border from the Army Region 2 Operations Center, dated December 13, 2025, was found, which stated that (Click to see the original archived content)
At 08:30 A.M, Cambodia fired BM-21 rockets into the homes of the people in Sao Thong Chai Subdistrict, Kantharalak District, Sisaket Province, causing 10 innocent civilians to be injured, including 1 person who was seriously injured. Therefore, Army Region 2 strongly condemns the inhumane act committed by the Cambodian side.

We also found images of the damage that matched the on-site reporting by The Reporters news team, surveying the damaged homes of the people in Sao Thong Chai Subdistrict, Kantharalak District, Sisaket Province, on December 13, 2025. (Click to see the original archived content)

The injured people were later identified as:

2. Mr. Ramphai Suwannasin, who sustained an impact on the head and has bleeding in the brain.
The other two injured people are:
1. Mr. Khomsan Sri-uan, who was hit by shrapnel in the back of the neck.
2. Mr. Seri Patinsee, who has swelling of the head due to being hit by shrapnel.
Initially, all of them were taken to Sirattana Hospital for treatment.

In addition, an on-site damage survey by the Thai PBS News team was conducted on December 13, 2025, in Surin Province, where people’s residences were also damaged by BM-21 rockets. It was found that these houses in the area were clearly damaged. (Click to see the original archived content)

The evidence is apparent in the report by foreign media.
However, we found that the house surveyed on-site by the ‘Khaojo Yor Lok’ Thai PBS program exactly matched with the on-site damage survey conducted by the Al Jazeera news agency.
While reporting on-site, the reporter had to run for safety after being heavily shelled by BM-21 rockets. The incident also appears in an AL Jazeera clip. (Click to see the original archived content)

What is the truth?
The Facebook page “ក្រសួងការពារជាតិ”, which belongs to the Cambodian Ministry of Defense, denied that Cambodia did not fire BM-21 rockets into a Thai community area. Simultaneously, the page accused Thai media and social media pages of publishing fake news and distorting the truth. However, such claim is inconsistent with facts apparent from multiple sources.
According to the Information from the Army Region 2 Operations Center, it clearly states that on December 13, 2025, at 08:30 A.M., Cambodia fired BM-21 rockets into Ban Sao Thong Chai, Sao Thong Chai Subdistrict, Kantharalak District, Sisaket Province, resulting in injured civilians and extensive damage to residences.
Furthermore, matching photographic and video evidence from on-site reporting by the Thai PBS News team, The Reporters, and international media such as Al Jazeera—covering the damage, the injured, and the situation during the incident—confirms that the attack genuinely occurred in a civilian area.
