Thai PBS Verify found the report on: foreign new website
The news website SeatradeMaritime, in a report published on March 11, 2026, stated that one Thai vessel was damaged in a shooting incident.
Thai PBS Verify found a report on the foreign website SeatradeMaritime dated March 11, 2026 at 15:43, which reported that:
According to maritime security firm Vanguard Tech the vessel is the Thai-flagged bulk carrier Mayruree Naree which is owned by Bangkok-headquartered Precious Shipping. The strike resulted in a fire onboard the vessel and reports said 20 crew had evacuated while three remained on board as rescue operations continued.
Is the Mayuree Naree cargo ship really a Thai vessel?
Thai PBS Verify searched for information about the vessel by typing the name “MAYUREE NAREE” on Google Search, before finding the website Vessel Finder, which displays ship details and the vessel’s current position. Formerly named “Good Princess,” Mayuree Naree, was built by Hindustan Shipyard in Visakhapatnam, India, and launched in 2008. The ship’s IMO number is 9323649. It was later transferred to a company in Thailand in 2012, renamed “Mayuree Naree,” and has been in operation until now
Mayuree Naree departed from the Mubarras 1 oil field on March 9, 2026 at 23:27 local time, heading to Kandla, India, with the voyage expected to take about three days.
However, at 07:54 UTC (14:54 Thailand time), the vessel transmitted its last position signal in the Strait of Hormuz, before remaining stationary in that area and the signal was lost. Shortly after, images from various news outlets began appearing across Thai social media on March 11, 2026.
A screenshot of the Vessel Finder website shows the latest available information and the last tracked position of the vessel.
The most serious attack involved Mayuree Naree, which is registered in Thailand and operated by Precious Shipping. The vessel was hit by an explosive object north of Oman in the strait, causing a fire and forcing the crew to evacuate. The fire was brought under control after several hours.
In addition, the container ship ONE Majesty, sailing under the Japanese flag with a capacity of 6,724 TEU, was also damaged in another attack. The ship’s captain reported that the vessel suffered a hole about 10 centimeters wide. The ship has now sailed to a safe anchorage, and all crew members are safe and have been checked.
Meanwhile, the Kamsarmax bulk carrier Star Gwyneth, owned by Star Bulk and registered in the Marshall Islands, was also attacked northwest of Dubai. The vessel sustained damage, but all crew members are safe. This has been described as one of the most dangerous days for maritime shipping since the escalation of attacks linked to Tehran.
The Marine Department confirms Mayuree Naree is registered under the Thai flag
Most recently, the Marine Department has confirmed with Thai PBS Verify that Mayuree Naree is indeed registered as a Thai vessel. Authorities are currently coordinating with the ship owner and international agencies to closely monitor the safety and welfare of the remaining crew members.
The Royal Thai Navy issues a statement regarding Mayuree Naree
The Royal Thai Navy reported on the situation, stating that it has been monitoring the case of a Thai cargo ship attacked near the Strait of Hormuz and is urgently coordinating assistance for 23 Thai crew members.
