A Google Lens search revealed that the footage actually depicts Netanyahu conducting a security situation assessment in the Gaza Strip on October 17, 2018.

Thai PBS Verify conducted a reverse image search by using Google Lens and discovered that the image does not depict a visit to female soldiers in 2026. Instead, it captures a statement made following a security assessment in the Gaza Strip, originally published on YouTube on October 17, 2018. The video’s description states the following:

A translation provided by Google Translate yields the following result;

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently assessed the security situation in the Gaza Strip alongside the Minister of Defense, the Deputy Chief of the General Staff, and the heads of the National Security Council and Shin Bet, as well as other high-ranking security officials.

Upon completing the security evaluation, the Prime Minister met with agency leaders stationed in the Gaza Strip.

Following the security assessment, the Prime Minister stated:

“I have just concluded a situational assessment with the IDF leadership and security heads. Israel views the attacks on the fence, Gaza, Beersheba and everywhere else with utmost gravity. I stated at the beginning of the cabinet meeting this week: if these attacks do not stop, we will stop them ourselves. I am telling you today that Israel will proceed with its full strength.”

The Prime Minister conducted a site visit to the Gaza Division’s air defense facilities. He met with female observers responsible for identifying the launch units of the rockets intercepted earlier today. He further commended the operational effectiveness and activities of the air defense system in the Gaza area.

At the conclusion of his visit to the Gaza sector, the Prime Minister met with various local leaders at the Sdot Negev Regional Council. Attendees included Tamir Idan, Head of the Sdot Negev Council; Alon Davidi, Mayor of Sderot; Yair Farjun, Head of the Hof Ashkelon Council; Alon Schuster, Head of the Sha’ar HaNegev Council; and Gadi Yarkoni, Head of the Eshkol Council.

When placed side-by-side, it’s clear that the image of Benjamin Netanyahu greeting officials is the exact same one used in previous reports. This proves that the photo has been taken out of context and recycled to support a new, misleading claim.

Benjamin Netanyahu is still alive

On March 15, 2026, a video was published on Benjamin Netanyahu’s personal Telegram account. It shows Netanyahu’s presence in a Jerusalem coffee shop, speaking with an aide. The video was intended to quash rumors of his death or injury, which had been highlighted by Iranian state television and official media and spread rapidly across Iranian social media platforms.

The video also captures Netanyahu being questioned by an assistant regarding the death rumors. Responding with the rumors, he uses a Hebrew wordplay and jokingly asks if anyone wants to count his fingers. This gesture addresses previous online speculation that his appearances were AI-generated, specifically mocking theories that he had six fingers—a frequent glitch in AI imagery.

What is the truth?

It is confirmed that the image in question was not shot in 2026, but is actually footage from nearly eight years ago. The original video dates back to October 17, 2018, during Prime Minister Netanyahu’s visit to the Gaza Strip to meet with female air defense observers. At the time, he was there to assess the security situation and praise their success in intercepting rockets. Consequently, this footage has no connection to the current rumors regarding his death.

Verification Process

  • Reverse image search: Thanks to an analysis with Google Lens, it was found to match a video statement on the Israeli Government’s official YouTube channel, uploaded back in 2018.
  • Description analysis: The metadata and description of the original Hebrew video clearly specify the location (Gaza Division) and the officials in attendance. This information directly matches the viral image of Benjamin Netanyahu shaking hands with the female soldier.
  • Current status verification: the actual Benjamin Netanyahu was seen on his personal Telegram account on March 15, 2026. He appeared at a cafe in Jerusalem to quash the rumors, contradicting the claims made by the ‘Israeli Titan’ account regarding a meeting at a secret location.

Impacts of the misinformation

  • Accumulated confusion: Even well-intentioned posts (e.g. to say that the leader of a country is still alive) can be harmful; using fake proof leads to a long-term loss of confidence in real news reports.
  • Engagement manipulation: Achieving over 3 million views highlights a trend where sensitive rumors regarding survival are prioritized by algorithms, resulting in higher visibility than verified facts.
  • Escalation of conflict: Death rumors were rapidly disseminated by adversarial state media (such as Iran) to undermine morale and incite domestic instability.

Recommended Response

  • Verifying image recency: If you encounter an image that seems to confirm a major event, use Google Lens or other reverse image search tool to check whether it was published prior to the current year.
  • Analyzing image components: Carefully look into details within the image, including uniforms, versions of communication devices, or physical characteristics, to determine if they match the present. Keep in mind that footage from 2018 will naturally contain inconsistencies with current standards.
  • Follow official statements: In cases involving the reported death or public appearance of world leaders, reputable news agencies (such as Reuters and AP) or the respective Israeli Prime Minister’s Office will issue an official announcement. Such significant news would not be limited to unverified images circulating on social media.
  • Be cautious of ‘breaking news’ without sources: If a post is labeled as ‘breaking news’ but lacks links to reputable news outlets, it should be treated as unverified information.
  • Cross-check with fact-checkers: Utilize platforms specialized in digital tracking to receive information that has undergone rigorous fact-checking.
