Thai PBS Verify Youth Camp 2026 Launches Experiential Learning on Scam Awareness at the CIB

As a highlight of this year’s training camp, the participants embarked on an educational visit to the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) on July 2, 2026. The tour allowed them to learn about cybercrime response strategies directly from frontline law enforcement. Furthermore, it sharpened their scam awareness and fact-checking skills through firsthand insights shared by experts and practitioners.

Discovering the CIB’s Mission and Building Scam Awareness with Field Experts

Thai PBS and the youth camp participants were honored by Police Major General Phutthiphong Nuchanart, Commander of the General Administration Division at the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), who delivered a warm welcome. He encouraged the youth to fully immerse themselves in this learning experience and emphasized that ‘digital literacy and online safety’ are crucial skills required to protect themselves, their loved ones, and society in today’s digital world.

To begin the session, participants watched a video presenting the CIB’s vital roles and responsibilities. Afterward, Captain Nontapat Intharasuwan and Captain Kansinee Sitthichotipong of the CIB Corporate Communications team conducted a special presentation titled ‘Cyber Threat Trends Affecting Youth, Online Reporting Channels, and Victim Rights.’ They provided an overview of the ongoing online crime crisis, backed by case statistics and current trends, to reveal how modern scammers operate with growing complexity.

Additionally, the youth gained valuable knowledge regarding victim rights in online fraud cases, as well as the step-by-step procedures and channels for filing online police reports, ensuring they are prepared for real-world situations. The session also raised awareness about the importance of verifying information before believing, clicking, or sharing—a foundational skill for self-protection against scammers in the digital age.

An On-Site Study of the CIB’s Real-World Operations

Following the lecture, the youth participated in various interactive learning stations. These included the Real-Time Crime Center (RTCC), where they learned about emergency response and victim assistance coordination, and the Digital Forensics Center, which offered an inside look at electronic evidence examination. The tour concluded at the CIB Museum & Learning Center, which showcases the history of the Central Investigation Bureau and the evolution of criminal investigation in Thailand.

The study tour provided a platform for participants to interact, ask questions, and share experiences directly with field practitioners. As a result, they gained a clear insight into the entire lifecycle of cybercrime investigation and legal proceedings. They also realized the critical role that data analysis, evidence gathering, and fact-checking play in solving online crimes

Learning from Real Cases: Highlighting the True Impact of Scams

In the afternoon, the youth heard firsthand accounts from an online scam survivor, whose costly lessons served as a powerful reminder that anyone can fall victim without digital immunity. This was followed by an update on ‘New Scams Targeting Youth,’ focusing on the latest deceptive techniques. Police Colonel Neti Wongkularb, Deputy Commander of the Technology Crime Suppression Division (CIB), joined the session to analyze these tactics through real case studies. He provided practical guidance on spotting red flags, prevention, and emergency response. Ultimately, the activity helped participants realize that media literacy, critical thinking, questioning, and fact-checking are not just journalistic tools, but essential life skills required to navigate the digital world safely.

Moving from listening to action, the young creators dove into an ‘In-Depth Interview Workshop’ right after the victim’s session. Split into teams, they got a taste of real journalism by interviewing victims of actual scams. They practiced systematic questioning, learned how to extract key insights from sources, fact-checked the details, and pieced together a well-rounded story. These insights will now be transformed into their upcoming fact-checking video content.

At the end of the camp, these fact-checking video projects will compete for total prizes worth more than 48,000 Baht, along with official certificates of achievement.

Empowering the Next Generation of Fact-Checkers

As a key highlight of the Thai PBS Verify Youth Camp 2026, this study tour is organized by Thai PBS with key partnerships from the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC), the Media Development Fund, and the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB). The objective is to enhance media literacy and groom young participants into future fact-checking professionals. By instilling ethics, critical thinking, and digital responsibility in the youth, the project aims to build a well-informed community and establish a sustainable defense against fake news and scams
