Post Claimed: “Chor Pannika” Demands “Military Reveal Battle Maps”
Thai PBS Verify found a Facebook user who posted an image of Ms. Pannika Wanich (nicknamed Chor), Executive Committee Member of the Progressive Movement, with the following caption:
“…I (Ms. Pannika) would like to say the military fights using taxpayers’ money. Therefore, the military should reveal its battle maps to the public as well, lol.”
The post received over 3,000 reactions and was shared more than 151 times. Most comments were critical of Ms. Pannika, suggesting that the statement was genuine. (Click for Archived original content)
What did Pannika actually say?
A reverse image search via Google Lens revealed that the photo used in the post was taken from a Prachatai YouTube interview titled “Conversations with Chor: Facing Witch Hunts with Hope.” The original content, published on July 24, 2019, discussed gender discrimination and the fight against fake news. Thai PBS Verify contacted Ms. Pannika, who confirmed she never made the statement in question. She clarified that the post was a clear attempt to stir controversy by suggesting she had demanded the military reveal battle maps. In reality, the audio was taken from a Channel 7 talk program, “Thok Mai Tiang“, which aired on November 14, 2025 and in which she was questioning the administration of PM Anutin Charnvirakul. Furthermore, she personally observed that the program is likely monitored by Information Operations (IO) units, particularly the military, perhaps because it is a highly rated show with a large audience. She noted that her words had been distorted in this manner twice before, through the selective editing of phrases to incite controversy. This instance is clear because no issues arose for an entire week following the broadcast. Regular viewers who watched the full segment had no problems with the interview as they heard the context in its entirety. However, months later, the content was systematically manipulated and circulated, causing ordinary people who were unaware of the facts to fall victim and unintentionally become part of the process. She observed that such messages are appearing more frequently as the election approaches.
Ms. Pannika Wanich (Chor), Executive Committee Member of the Progressive Movement
“It is natural for nationalist sentiment to rise during border conflicts, making public emotions more volatile,” Ms. Pannika stated. “This type of manipulation is low-cost but high-impact. They take an image from one source and pair it with fabricated text. When I deny it, they release a clip from Thok Mai Tiang edited to show me saying ‘Where is the plan?’ regarding military movements, while cutting out the beginning and the end of the speech.”
The actual context involved her criticism of the Anutin administration regarding scammer syndicates. At the time of her interview (November 14, 2025), official action against certain criminal groups of Ben Smith or Yim Leak had not yet materialized. There were only press conference photos and claims of cracking down on scammers, while the second wave of conflict had not yet occurred. However, the government capitalized on nationalist sentiment, asserting that they would fight to the end and not lose a single square inch of territory. She asked “You have no plan at all? You only talk. Where is the plan to suppress the scammers? How, exactly, will you do it? If you are going to fight, how far will you go?” This resulted in the 7-second clip that was taken out of context. At the end of that program, I even added a disclaimer, knowing that my statements were frequently doctored. She also stated that “I am not asking for the details of the battle plans. I do not wish to know them. Why would I want Cambodia to know as well?” Yet, her words were distorted, as the editors chose the specific seven seconds they wanted and paired them with fake news.
“It is a systematic operation. They selected 100% false information and mixed it with certain words I actually said—specifically, the word ‘plan.’ However, a ‘plan’ is not a ‘map’. So, they are entirely different things. A plan is a strategy, whereas a map is a geographical chart — they are completely unrelated. Yet, these words were spliced together, and once public emotion was triggered, no one believed me when I came forward to clarify the facts. Instead, people claimed I really said it, accused me of lying, or dismissed my legal action as a retaliatory lawsuit. Others argued that they had already seen the clip and that the whole country had heard it. But what the country actually heard was a 7-to-10-second clip edited from the middle of the conversation.
The beginning of the segment, which clearly showed I was referring to the Anutin administration, was removed. They only took the middle section where I mentioned a ‘plan’ and merged it with the initial 100% fake news—the false claim that I demanded the military reveal its battle maps.“
“All of this is a systematic orchestration, with the ending also cut out, leading people to believe that the clip is not fake news. This is essentially a truth with untruth,” Pannika added. “It involves cutting words to remove all context and creating a supporting narrative to mix with certain words I actually spoke, aimed at making people believe the entire story is true. It is a highly professional and systematic arrangement.”
Additionally, she stated that on December 22, 2025, she filed a report at Thong Lo Police Station, providing Facebook posts as evidence to take legal action against those spreading fake news online for defamation and violations of the Computer Crimes Act. She affirmed that filing this report is a way to protect her rights and the upcoming election. Furthermore, Pannika addressed the source of the altered speech of hers, which first emerged on December 17, 2025. She asserted that she did not appear on any programs that day. She worked all day and did not give any interviews. Therefore, this information is false and constitutes fake news intended to cause damage.
What’s the truth?
The message stating that “Chor told the military to reveal battle plans to the public because they fight using taxes” is 100% false. Meanwhile, the image used to accompany the post was taken from a Prachatai interview clip published on July 24, 2019, which addressed criticisms of gender discrimination in the House of Representatives and the issue of fake news. It has no connection to recent border incidents.
Furthermore, the word “plan” used by Ms. Pannika was part of a question regarding the government’s “scammer suppression plan” during the Thok Mai Tiang program on November 14, 2025. She clearly emphasized in the program, “I am not asking for the details of the battle plans. I do not wish to know them. Why would I want Cambodia to know as well?” However, this specific sentence was edited out, resulting in a misunderstanding.
