Vegetable Vendor
ที่ตลาดแห่งหนึ่งมีลูกค้าชาวต่างชาติเดินเข้ามาถามร้านขายผักแผงหนึ่งว่า Are you a customer or are you the vendor? แม่ค้าไม่เข้าใจ ครูคริสเลยสอนว่า Vendor ผู้ขาย และ Seller ผู้ขาย เหมือนกัน สรุปเป็นคนขายเลยตอบลูกค้าชาวต่างชาติไปว่า Yes, I'm the seller. I sell pug.) แต่ลูกค้าเข้าใจว่าเป็น (Pug) สุนัขพันธุ์ปั๊ก แต่แม่ค้าต้องการบอกว่าขายผัก ครูคริสเลยสอนว่า Vegetable แปลว่า ผัก แต่แม่ค้ายังออกเสียงผิดเป็น (Wet table) โต๊ะเปียก แม่ค้าก็บ่นว่าเห็นผักตั้งเยอะดูไม่ออกเลยว่าขายผัก ลูกค้าชาวต่างชาติพูดว่าออกเสียงอย่างนั้นใครจะฟังออก ก็แอบขำกันไปทั้งคู่
ต่อมาลูกค้าถามว่าผักชนิดนี้คืออะไร แม่ค้าตอบคะน้า ครูคริสเลยสอนว่า Chinese kale และต่อมาคือ ผักบุ้ง (Morning glory) แม่ค้าถามลูกค้าว่า Do you want to buy vegetables today, sir? ลูกค้าตอบ Yeah, you know, I put on too much weight. My doctor said, I have to eat vegetables if I want to be healthy. Yeah, my plan is to make a salad today. แม่ค้าออกเสียง (Salad) สลัด เป็น (Slut) ผู้หญิงที่มีผู้ชายหลายคน ครูคริสเลยสอนออกเสียงว่า Salad แปลว่า สลัด และต่อมาต้นหอม คือ Scallion (US) หรือ Green onion หัวหอมสีเขียว และ Spring onion (UK) ต้นหอม ส่วนต้นหอมใหญ่คือ Leek ต่อมาลูกค้ามองเห็น Oh, these are long beans, right? ถั่วฝักยาว ส่วนสามารถใช้ String beans และ Long beans ได้ ต่อมายังมี ผักกาดหอม (Lettuce) ออกเสียง เล็ทเทิส ไม่ใช่ Letter ที่แปลว่า จดหมาย และสุดท้ายหน่อไม้ฝรั่ง คือ Asparagus
